Something To Be Thankful For
Something To Be Thankful For After my and granddaughters moved in and the wife moved on I took over all the Mom duties in the house. This included the Thanksgiving dinner. I'd never cooked anything like this before and wasn't too confident, despite my culinary creativity. My cooking had always been along the line of breakfast tacos, Dorito meatloaf, and homemade Pizza. I have a few TexMex dishes I've made up that were popular, but nothing like a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Wow! I've worked in restaurants before and knew how busy things can get, but trying to serve up turkey and all the rest and getting it all to the table hot, unburned, and fully cooked at the same time was some kind of feat. I tried this a few yrs before I realized a 4 and a 6 yr old weren't going eat anything save a roll with butter, some mashed potatoes, or stove top stuffing. They could care less for turkey, cranberry sauce, green beans, etc. And it wasn't MY cooking, they didn't like turkey at the other grandparents house, either. So, about 5 yrs ago I decided to give them a dinner they could be thankful for. I told everyone they could pick one main dish, one side, anything they wanted, and I'd make enough so that everyone could have some of everything. It worked, they eat, they get excited picking their dishes, and now hate going to the other grandparents just that much more. SUCCESS!!! Over the years we've come up with a few constants for every dinner. Since everybody loves stuffing and Texas cheese toast, those are automatically on the menu, plus I always allow a few "extras" just to NOT limit their enjoyment. Anywho, after all this rambling BS, here's this years Thanksgiving Meal for 2018: Stuffing Tamales Texas cheese toast Eggrolls Fish Sticks Mashed potatoes Spaghetti Waffle Fries Chicken Strips Taquitos Do you have a traditional dinner or do you have something different? |

I love Thanksgiving. I used to have what we decided to call Orphans Day. Anyone who had no place to go could come to my home and bring a dish( not the two-legged variety) after a phone call to me so I might have to decide if it worked into the basic plan. I had folks from the UK who brought the best roasted potatoes I have ever eaten and I never made mashed fro that day. I got twice baked stuffed sweet yams Someone brought duck gravy that went superbly with turkey and we also got roasted Brussels sprouts. This year I am doing squash pie( sweet pumpkin) and I make the stuffing from the beginning by drying my own torn breads. Your menu ROCKS!!! (Virtual Symposium Group) use Virtual Symposium Group

I love picture from Bitter Homes and Gardens. I knew a guy that used to bone out 20 pound turkeys and stuff the whole thing back into the shape of what he recalected A turkey looked liked after he'd consumed 2 bottles of wine during the Whole process.Best runover tortoise I'd ever eaten. Using more than all the road!

Although turkey dinner with all the trimmings is probably my all-time favourite meal, I stopped cooking one. It’s just too much food. Traditions are whatever you define them to be. Kudos to you for the creativity and making everyone happy 😊

I love turkey and especially smoked turkey. So I'm having smoked turkey and sweet potatoes. Oh...and cranberries. Yeah, it's just me and I'm going to have a lot left over, but I'll be eating turkey for a week...long after the sweet potatoes run out. Good for you for asking the kids what they want! Saves wasted food that way and makes them happy.

We always have a traditional dinner, although it sometimes includes ham, along with the stuffed turkey. I haven''t had to prepare it for years (since shortly after my ex left). I think I did it for the next 2 or 3 years and invited my parents to come and join the kids and I. I miss having the inner at my house, because I LOVE turkey, potatoes, stuffing and gravy leftovers - but no enough to do a turkey dinner, on my own, for 1 person. I have vivid memories of my kids NOT liking the big turkey dinner, and asking why they couldn't have macaroni or spaghetti, or something they liked (and they were quite a bit older than 6 and 4). What is Texas Cheese Toast? Recipe, please. Check out my profile or and become a "watcher" of my blog FMAOPLS,to learn more about me, and for intelligent, lively, smartassy and fun discussion, with a little irreverence thrown in. Hey... That's a great idea and a kool menu! Sure! 😊👍Traditions? I used to get traditionally hammered on Thanksgiving... but that gets old... after a while. Plus they've just legalized a natural herb here. I'm going to give that a shot this year... and start a new tradition. I imagine I'll be the only one still eating... long after everyone has left the table... Hey. Have a great Thanksgiving! 🍗🌶️🍌🐽🐓 ... is there another way to look at it Going Too Fucking Far NEW Blog Features RevealeD O O A Foolproof Method Posted Over on that NEW site O O

What a great tradition. Our Thanksgiving was always the "traditional" one...turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry jelly, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, green beans with bacon and onions, rolls. Pumpkin and pecan pies for dessert. At some point we swapped out the green beans for sauted brussels sprouts. I loved cooking the big meals. I created a schedule, working backwards from the time I want dinner on the table, and prepped as much ahead of time as I could. That allowed me to visit with family and still get everything done. This year it's just me, I'm doing a turkey breast, stuffing, brussels sprouts, and cranberry relish. Maybe homemade rolls. We'll see. Just enough left over so I'll get tired of it, but not enough that I'll have to throw it away. "Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is relax." – Mark Black

You're making memories, those are more important than the meal. The fact that you think outside the box makes you the cool grandpa.

Cooking a traditional dinner is heavy work. Except for spaghetti, stuffing, and fish sticks, my cooking will all be heat and eat.
