Love

When people say they love TV shows and movie stars they have never met, it truly cheapens the word love. How can that person use the same word to convey their thoughts for reality and people they actually know? Don't get caught up in someone saying they love you if they also say they love things that aren't even real. That is all.

"love" can have a multitude of meanings. I would be concerned if someone told me they loved me after having sex once but otherwise they should be free to love whatever they want.

Yes, sure, they can "love" whatever they want. But if someone says they "love" TV shows, then their word "love" just means they enjoy something and there's little more to it.

The confusion starts because there are so many different kinds of love - yet there is only one word for love. There may be a very genuine love of a husband or wife, a very best friend, a child, a grandparent, and so many other kinds of love.

I've heard the words tough love used before too. You care about someone enough to do things that maybe be hard to do, and be tough with them. And that may even include the purposeful withdraw and withholding from them of the love that you hold for them. It is possible for unconditional love to destroy. Do whatever you want, and I will love you no matter what... Where's the penalty for some horrific act?

Love is but a four-letter word. Simple as it may all be, yet so complicated. And so intertwined for most of us..

Love, to me, implies a back and forth commitment. That's why I specifically talk about TV shows and movie stars - things for which there can never be any kind of mutual commitment because the other end doesn't even know you exist.

Equal amounts of mutual commitment can be difficult to attain. I like your definition of love though...

I hear some people love flying, love vacation, love a certain beach, etc. There are just so many different kinds of love - yet only one word for love. And for that person that says they love some movie star, etc.. How do you know that they don't really get something from them? No, it may not be kisses, company, a birthday cake, and whatever else. But maybe they do get something from them, you just may not see it, or understand it. Because you don't get it.

I get it. They like to say "love". I have hobbies I enjoy dearly, that I am committed to even. I don't say I " love" them. My whole point is that using the word "love" for so many situations is exactly what makes it so confusing.

I understand unconditional love and I am not at all "confused" by what peoplr mean when they say they love a movie star. It's just not what I would use the word love for.

I thought blogs were where people expressed their own personal opinion. Why now have two people claimed "you don't get it" or that I am "confused"? Please quit trying to make me sound wrong for having an opinion that doesn't match yours.

Oh, I can be so sour sometimes. Sorry ladies. And a hypocrite too. I'll save you the dick pic but there's one in my profile captioned, "Love that c-ring!" So, yeah, I can see why people might use "love" for inanimate objects.

Just so you know, I didn't mean to imply you were confused. Rather that the subject of Love can be confusing. Just one example that there is only one word for Love, yet there are just different kinds of love. Sure an opinion may be expressed in a blog. But unless you turn off comments, you chance a discussion.. (Social intercourse? )

Nothing better than some good intercourse to get the issue worked out!
