What Kind of Gift Am I? A Poem

So many came before
Who barely passed the time
Gone before I could
Properly say goodbye.
Had I wanted to try

They hardly cared
About my soul
My mind given
Half a thought
If we shared a laugh
Or talked.
My body was what
They wanted
And got.
Because after all
I am the giving sort

I can leave this
All behind
If you are
As unique
As you say you are
If your shared words
Came from your heart
Not some script
You recite by rote
Because you know
It's affect on every woman.

You want that light
You want someone
Who is understanding
But if that comes
In a package
That was damaged
Will you declare it
Broken at the outset
Or open it
And test it
Knowing that
Returning it
Could leave it
To a fate uncertain?
Not to mention
Waiting for it's replacement?

I am that
Damaged package
But I still have all
The goods
I just someone
To think me more
Than a cover to a book.
And still feel
All the excitement
And joy
Receiving their
Longed for
Item should.
