Boil water advisories remain in place for six northwest Calgary communities while flood watches and advisories were issued for several provincial river basins.

Up to 100 mm of rain was expected between Banff and Canmore overnight Saturday, resulting in high streamflow advisories being issued for the Bow River, upstream and downstream of Calgary while a flood watch was issued upstream of Canmore.

Flood watches were also put in place along stretches of the Red Deer River and North Saskatchewan River while a high streamflow advisory was issued for parts of the Athabasca River.

“The highest amount (of rain) we’d seen by noon (Saturday) was 44 mm, in Jasper,” said Environment Canada meteorologist Kyle Fougere.

“A lot of other areas have received over 30 mm so it’s going to continue to accumulate.”

The bad weather wasn’t just limited to rain.

A tornado touched down briefly just after 4:30 p.m. about 40 km north of Stettler, causing damage.

“We’ve had a lot of reports of funnel clouds today and we had one guy who reported damage with it,” said Fougere.

“He had grain bins that were tossed and spruce trees were snapped and a flag pole was bent.”

The land owner was also able to snap a photo of the funnel touching the ground.

“It does look like a tornado did touch down, but we can’t rate it,” said Fougere.

“We have no radar that can pick up the rotation.

“We call these land spout tornadoes.

“There’s a lot of spin in the atmosphere today so as the thunderstorm ingests the air from lower levels, it’s spins.”

A low pressure system moving slowly over the province is to blame for the wet and windy weather, said Fougere.

“It caused a lot of upslope flow onto the foothills which created all the rain,” he said.

“It’s also very unstable so there’s been a lot of thunderstorms yesterday and (Saturday), so that helps with higher amounts of rain.

“The hardest hit will likely be the mountainous area between Banff and Jasper and toward Nordegg.”

On Thursday, Alberta Health Services issued the first boil water advisory in more than 30 years for six northwest communities, including Nolan Hill, Sage Hill, Sherwood, Kincora, Hamptons and Hidden Valley.

Move too your place?? My told me yesterday the snow pack in the mountains is only 1 third melted.

I know they will be at the door asking me to sand bag again. I don't know if I can take it again. I know my muscles will get sore.

Oh wait I can. The women bring you lunch.

And pat you on the back and say nice job you get big smiles too. This could be a whole night job. I better bring my sleeping bag.

Have you ever had sex in a sleeping Bag?? I had in down to a art.

You just zip the the two of them together then you had lots of room to move around in.

It is best to do that in your own tent tho.

When she helps you zip the sleeping bags togeher. You know you will stay warm that night.

This is not meant to offend any one in any way.
