 First meet, public place with no expectations, something easy like a coffee. Lots of fakes and flakes , I proceed with caution. Just had another disappointing meet, he said he is former athlete, pic was ok. In person he whined after 5 min of walking, and pic must have been at least 10 years old.  I think the expectation is always there and I do have a but here lol sometimes a person after meeting might have a mannerism that the other person can't deal with or the way they are approached in person might turn them off. There's a lot of other influences that might have someone change their mind. Just a thought
