Taking care of my sick pussy!

Now now, get your minds out of the gutter, it's the four legged variety!
For the last week, I have been playing nursemaid, to my very poorly pussycat.
After almost a week of her being off her food, loosing weight & being very lethargic, I got her to a vet.
On entering the surgery, the vet asked what the problem was, gave her a quick check up & then without saying what was wrong with her, asked if I had pet insurance?
That just started the alarm bells, ringing in my head!
You just know, when a vet mentions insurance, the prognosis is going to be, very very expensive.
She has a lump in her stomach, which he is not sure what it is, without blood tests, a scan & maybe a biopsy.
To give you an idea, the blood test alone is nearly 200 pounds.
He also wanted to keep her in, over the weekend, which would have set me back 300 pounds.
As it's 2 weeks till payday, my funds are a little lacking.
So he offered the basic, quick fix, of antibiotics & steroids.
In the hope that it was just an infection & with me staying home, from work, to look after her.
As I wouldn't have earned enough working, to pay for her stay & constant monitoring.
I also had to come back to see him in 2 days time, to see if there was any improvements.
So 2 visits down & at least one more to come, when her meds run out, it has set me back, just short of 200 pounds.
She's still a little weak & unsteady on her feet, but she's eating well & seems to be on the mend.
The only problem I have, is looking like something out of a Freddy Krueger movie.
Trust me, trying to get meds, down a cats throat, is not my idea of fun!
You can tell she's getting better, just by how much more of a fight, she puts up.
For something that doesn't have lips, she can clamp her mouth shut, tighter than a vice.
It's surprising that she is getting better at all, seeing that I usually end up wearing more of it, that actually goes into her mouth!
It really is a battle of the wills, between us.
She's one hell of s stubborn cow.
But I wouldn't want her any other way.
But after my visits to the vet, I can understand why people mistreat animals, by not getting treatment for them.
The prices charged, for their care, is just plain stupid.
All the doctors tell us, that having a pet will help with our health, by making us happier & cutting our stress levels.
Well that is, until we get the vet's bill!

Your pussy doesn't have lips?

One of mine was hit by a car and lost an eye - it cost £350 to get the socket sewn up. And then the ungrateful one-eyed shite left home and moved in with a family down the road

My little fluffy, four legged one doesn't.
The neighbours, down the road, probably had better healthcare insurance & could provide him with a false eye, for cosmetic reasons.

It's nice to know, that I'm not the only silly sod, who loves their pet, more than my own creature comforts!

Oh yes - giving medicine to cats is not fun. I was never quite sure where the keep all those extra legs.

Hope she makes a full recovery.
It's not so much to do with, what to do with the extra legs, it's more to do with avoiding, what is at the end of each of them.
I hope it was just an infection & nothing more serious.

I don't envy you, with both the fees paid out, to keep your little puppy dog well or trying to catch wee in a cup.
But as you said, they are worth it.

You're telling me!
She seems to be on the road to recovery, but only time will tell.
But she's a lot more lively, eating well & putting on weight.
But the little cow is getting far too used to having me waiting on her hand & paw.

Pets are like family members. But here in Canada we have Medicare for family members, but have to pay the piper (the vet) for our pets.

I don't have any at present because my job keeps me away from home so much that I can't take care of one properly.

I hope your cat gets well soon.

We in England, have the NHS (National Health Service), for when we get sick.
But my cat gets private health care.
There really is something wrong with that, if you think about it.
I would be lost, if I didn't have a cat.
The longest I have ever gone without one, was 3 yrs.
That was because my ex husband hated cats.
I went against his wishes & got one for my daughter & myself.
Lets just say, the cat was with me, a hell of a lot longer than he was.
